What can be injected?

Unique, deep acne scars in the face can be injected. This method is also true for all other scars on the body, as well as for all skin defects that are associated with a loss of volume. For this purpose there is a variety of different materials to work with available. Your doctor will discuss with you prior to treatment, what material is best for you and for what reason.

What do the fillers consist of?

A distinction is being made between artificial materials and natural fillers, i.e. body fat. The latter has the advantage that no allergies can be developed against the material. The fat is extracted as part of a mini-liposuction and specially preprocessed. It can be stored for further use in specially designed refrigerators for years and thawed in portions. Artificial fillers are often made of hyaluronic acid, which can also be found naturally in the human body. Hyaluronic acid has a low risk of side effects and remains in the body for about 1 to 1 1/2 years until it is naturally degraded. It is available in different degrees of crosslinking and therefore suitable for a variety of indications. Prior to treatment, your doctor will discuss with you what material may be the best for your personal case.

How many sessions are required and are the effect permanent?

For injections of hyaluronic acid one session is usually sufficient; sometimes small readjustment take place in another session. The effect then lasts up to 1 or 1 1/2 years. If you opt for an injection with your own fat, several sessions are always required. This follows from the fact that part of the injected fat is being degraded again by your body.

Is the treatment painful?

The materials are being injected into the skin by means of fine needles. In case of patients with high pain sensitivity, a skin numbing cream may be applied or the skin can be cooled during the treatment. The treatment is then usually very well endurable.
