Photodynamic therapy (PDT)

Treating preliminary Skin cancer stages without surgery

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) represents a special focus of treatment at our dermatology practice. It is used as a new, non-surgical therapy for the treatment of certain skin cancers, skin cancer precursors, actinic keratoses and superficial basal cell carcinomas. Especially larger infested areas (e.g. an attack all over the scalp, large basal cell carcinomas on the trunk, large-scale attacks with actinic keratoses or the Bowen's disease) or skin alterations in inaccessible parts of the body can be treated. Treatment is also possible under special circumstances, e.g. in advanced age or concomitant diseases.

What is photodynamic therapy?

PDT is a method of treating tissue changes with light in combination with a photosensitive cream. This cream is applied to the affected skin, and after a certain reaction time it is being irradiated with a suitable light, the so-called Wood's light. This causes photophysical processes that damage the tissue change.

Prevention is better

It is recommended to undergo a dermatological control of the skin (known as skin cancer screening) on a regular basis, because only this way there is a chance of detecting potentially malignant skin alterations and treating them early. An efficient and cosmetically attractive treatment of melanoma skin cancer.
